Couples Gourmet Getaway July 25 - 28
Fish, laugh, and fall in love all over again during the 5th annual Couples Gourmet Getaway & Winemakers Dinner.
Join us at the Lodge at Walters Cove for 4 days of fantastic fishing, award winning wines and gourmet meals. Walters Cove is a small cozy lodge perched in the historic village of Kyuquot on Vancouver Island's remote northwest coast. Kyuquot Sound is known for its scenic west coast beauty, extraordinary fishing and diverse wildlife; all of which you will experience on this getaway. For those who like a bit of friendly competition, we have made this trip a derby and the grand prize is a trip for 2 to the Couples Getaway in 2011!
Day 1
Guests will meet at Vancouver’s South Terminal at 10:00am for their flight to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. From Port Hardy we will take a scenic flight into the fishing lodge. We arrive at the lodge by 1pm and enjoy a buffet lunch while the staff preps us for our next 3 days of activities. After lunch we board our boats and head out for some fantastic fishing. Later this evening, head back to the lodge to enjoy a wine and cheese event hosted by Hillside winery. This evening enjoy a delicious meal in our cedar dining room.
Day 2
Today is our first full day in Walters Cove and there are many activities from which to choose to spend your time. Your guide is yours for up to 10 hours per day so if you would like to go fishing, he will be happy to take you out. You may also want to embark on a local wildlife tour that is sure to blow your mind! Bears, sea otters, whales, eagles, and wolves…the list is endless! Walters Cove is home to and incredibly diverse population of animals. This evening, we will gather in the dining room for a 6 course winemaker’s dinner hosted by Hillside Winery and prepared by the one an only Chef Glenn Gatzke. This dinner is an Epicurean’s delight designed to blow your senses.
Another full day to fill with the sights and sounds of Walters Cove! After a filling breakfast, you have the day to spend enjoying great fishing or take a walk around the Village, or both! It’s up to you; your guide and boat are at your disposal.
This evening we take a short boat ride to Spring Island beach for a rustic campfire dinner prepared by our resident lodge chef. From here we can take in the beautiful west coast sunset as we dine.
At the BBQ, lodge manager Brad Clarke will host the trip wrap-up ceremony and the Couples Derby prizes will be awarded. Remember, the largest Chinook salmon caught on this trip wins the lucky angler and a guest a trip back for our 2011 Couples Getaway! 1 in 22, not bad odds!
Day 4
This is our last morning at Walters Cove and if you haven’t caught your limit, you may wish to take advantage of your time and go out for a few hours before you prepare to leave. You may also wish to sleep in! And that’s fine too. Our plane arrives at 1pm to take us back to the mainland and we arrive back at Vancouver’s South Terminal.
